BRIDGEWATER — Down two targets getting into the fourth quarter of Thursday’s Div. 4 state semifinal at Bridgewater-Raynham Excessive Faculty, most of what the Dennis-Yarmouth subject hockey workforce talked about was that successful or dropping didn’t matter a lot.

    Simply strive.

The tight-knit group rode a last-ditch effort all the best way to a rare comeback, capped by senior Alaina Manuel’s game-winner in time beyond regulation to carry the No. 2 Dolphins (17-5) to a shocking 4-3 win over No. 3 Cohasset.

They advance to play No. 5 Frontier for the state title of their first last look since 2018, Saturday at Burlington Excessive Faculty at midday.

“We’re such a younger workforce,” stated Dennis-Yarmouth head coach Leslie LaFronz. “I’ve acquired one eighth-grader and 5 (freshmen) beginning on varsity. The children simply work arduous and so they imagine, and so they belief one another. … I believed the third (objective) was going to do us in. We simply chip away. Now it’s for pleasure, and so they simply stepped up. I’m so happy with them, it’s thrilling.”

“It’s been so lengthy since we made it this far,” Manuel added. “All people didn’t quit. … We’re simply so blissful to make it this far.”

After producing only one objective and three pictures on objective throughout the primary three quarters in opposition to a standout Skippers (15-4-1) defensive effort, D-Y flipped a change within the fourth quarter to generate three extra – scoring twice – for a 3-3 tie by the top of regulation.

LaFronz felt a nook in additional time can be sufficient to present the Dolphins the game-winning objective in 7-on-7 sudden-death time beyond regulation, and it practically did if not for an incredible stand from Alison Shultz (six saves) to save lots of three pictures.

However on one other nook with 3:29 left in time beyond regulation, the Dolphins acquired that winner. Leah Woodward (two targets) lower to her proper, despatched a ball to Aurora Quenneville on the stroke line that she tipped after a defender slowed it down, and it bounced to Manuel towards the far publish for the winner.

“All I needed to do was get it in after which we win,” Manuel stated of what was going by her head. “I used to be simply sort of over-thinking it, however ultimately (it went in).”

Woodward performed a serious position, scoring twice in her first sport again after lacking two weeks with an harm.

“To have her again on the market was simply large,” LaFronz stated. “She’s a incredible ballhandler.”

Cohasset took an early 1-0 lead on a nook off a drive from Grace Kiernan within the first 4 minutes. Woodward tied it up late within the body, however Emily Regan’s objective with 21 seconds left regained a Skippers lead. Groups had been sound on protection to restrict pictures over the following two durations, although a two-shot flurry from Liv Appel late within the third quarter gave Cohasset a 3-1 lead.

It took lower than three minutes into the ultimate interval for D-Y to shake it off, although, as a cool tip in entrance gave Woodward her second objective to chop the deficit in half. Lower than two minutes later, Jenna Richard evened the rating at 3-3.

Richard was a serious a part of a defensive effort to only about shut down Cohasset’s assault, too, regardless of just a few Skippers’ runs into the attacking 25.

“It’s beginning to come collectively on the proper time,” LaFronz stated.
