A 144-golfer area has been whittled to eight on the 117th Massachusetts Novice Championship at GreatHorse in Hampden.

Two of the remaining gamers are members on the host course, whereas George Wright Golf Course can also be represented by two golfers within the quarterfinal area.

The sector was trimmed after two rounds of match play Wednesday, organising Thursday’s schedule.

At 7:30 a.m., Billy Walthouse of GreatHorse will face Patrick Kilcoyne of Woodland Golf Membership. At 7:40 a.m., Aidan Emmerich of Kernwood CC will battle Trevor Drew of Lengthy Meadow GC.

The 7:50 a.m. match pits Ryan Downes of GreatHorse and Jake Ratti of Wollaston GC. The ultimate quarterfinal match, at 8 a.m., must be a dandy, as George Wright members Joseph Lenane and Ben Spitz will vie for a spot within the semifinals.

The one gamers left who completed within the high 5 following two rounds of stroke play are Drew and Lenane.

    The event will conclude Friday.
