Drake Maye put forth the best performance of his young NFL career on Sunday night time in opposition to the Payments, out-dueling Josh Allen and serving to New England beat Buffalo, 23-20, in a primetime matchup.

However, regardless of Maye’s efforts at Highmark Stadium, the previous UNC standout didn’t obtain a shoutout from his alma mater through social media Sunday night time or early Monday morning.

And according to Ross Martin of CBS Sports/247Sports, the radio silence from the Tar Heels was attributable to UNC head coach Invoice Belichick’s icy sentiment towards his former crew.

In keeping with sources contained in the UNC soccer program, it’s a directive from the workers (Invoice Belichick) to not tweet/retweet something Patriots-related.

“In keeping with sources contained in the UNC soccer program, it’s a directive from the workers (Invoice Belichick) to not tweet/retweet something Patriots-related,” Martin posted through X early Monday morning. “That’s clearly why UNC soccer has not posted something from Drake Maye’s electrical primetime win over the Buffalo Payments.”

Over an hour after Martin’s submit began to make the rounds on social media, the Tar Heels’ foremost X account posted a video highlighting a few of Maye’s throws on Sunday night time soccer that helped New England beat the final undefeated crew remaining within the NFL.

Shortly earlier than the Tar Heels lastly gave Maye his flowers on-line, former UNC head coach Mack Brown congratulated his former QB for his efforts in opposition to the Payments.

So Blissful for Drake. Enjoyable to look at him win final night time in Buffalo like he did so many instances at UNC. Love ❤️ and Recognize you my pal! Maintain it rolling! pic.twitter.com/BlfuJOGSto

“So Blissful for Drake,” Brown posted. “Enjoyable to look at him win final night time in Buffalo like he did so many instances at UNC. Love ❤️ and Recognize you my pal! Maintain it rolling!”

This isn’t the primary time that Belichick has seemingly butted heads with a Patriots franchise that he coached for twenty-four seasons earlier than leaving on poor phrases after the 2023 marketing campaign.

Final month, Belichick confirmed that he banned a Patriots scout from attending soccer practices at North Carolina earlier this summer time.

“It’s clear that I’m not welcome there round their facility, in order that they’re not welcome at ours,” Belichick said of the Patriots after a win over UNC Charlotte on September 6. “Fairly easy.”

Whereas the Patriots improved to 3-2 beneath Mike Vrabel following Sunday’s win, Belichick has had a more durable time in his first season as head coach at UNC. The Tar Heels had been blown out, 38-10, by Clemson on Saturday, with Belichick falling to 2-3 up to now at Chapel Hill.

Speaking on NBC Sports Boston’s “Patriots Pregame Live” on Sunday, Sports activities Illustrated’s Albert Breer stated that UNC doubtlessly shopping for out Belichick from his five-year, $50 million contract is “one thing they’ve to have a look at.”

“There’s so many issues that they’ve performed there — that is one factor you hear from plenty of NFL individuals which were via there — there are such a lot of issues that they’ve performed there that fly within the face of what you need to be doing to attempt to entice prime expertise,” Breer stated.

“There’s no query that job No. 1 for any coach is attracting prime expertise to North Carolina, and I feel that’s the place you begin if you happen to’re the North Carolina administration,” Breer added. “You take a look at their roster and also you say, ‘You turned over 70 p.c of the roster and that’s the place we’re getting beat on a week-to-week foundation.’ … I feel there are many honest inquiries to ask in these departments.”
