The Patriots downgraded cornerback Christian Gonzalez to out Saturday afternoon.

Gonzalez returned to follow this week for the primary time since injuring his hamstring on July 28, however he was restricted for 3 practices.

Gonzalez now will miss his third straight recreation with the harm.

The ruling leaves the Patriots with Carlton Davis III, Marcus Jones, Alex Austin, Charles Woods and Kobee Minor at cornerback.

Count on Davis to cowl Steelers large receiver DK Metcalf with Jones on Calvin Austin. The Steelers usually align in two-wide receiver units, relying closely on tight ends Pat Freiermuth, Jonnu Smith and Darnell Washington. Count on Alex Austin for use because the Patriots’ third cornerback in nickel units.

Safeties Dell Pettus and Kyle Dugger might play larger roles alongside starters Jaylinn Hawkins and Craig Woodson.

Minor was elevated from the follow squad together with linebacker Mark Robinson. That is Robinson’s third and remaining elevation from the follow squad. The Patriots do have an open spot on their 53-man roster in the event that they wish to promote him after this week.
